Photographer & Videographer

Julia Boggio & James Derbyshire answers all your Photography & Film related questions

A real pro

Q. My uncle is a keen amateur photographer and he wants to take my wedding photos. I really want a professional photographer on the day but don't want to offend him. What should I do?

A. Julia Boggio & James Derbyshire says: If photography is important to you it?s important to use a professional photographer. A wedding day is full of varied lighting conditions both inside and outside the church, at the reception and where candlelight is used, to name a few. A professional will know how to deal with such fast changing conditions. He or she will also be used to working with couples and know how to get the best out of them on the day.
Ask your uncle to concentrate on taking shots of your guests before the ceremony and during the reception. That way, he'll feel like he's contributing to the day without you having to compromise on your real wedding photography.

Candy camera

Q. My fiancé and I are unsure whether to have a wedding video done or not. The ones our friends have shown us before we really hated! Any suggestions?

A. Julia Boggio & James Derbyshire says: If you've found previous wedding films cheesy or boring, don't worry! There are so many different styles available nowadays that are neither of these things. You can expect to pay hundreds or thousands of pounds, depending on the type of film you want. At the lower end of the price scale, you're looking at getting a linear edit of the day, taken by one cameraman. At the higher end, you're likely to get a professional documentary-style film.
If you do look at booking a videographer, ask to see a complete wedding film. A good one should be under one hour in length, be well-edited, and most importantly, entertaining even to people who don't know the couple.
